Garrison Today:
Preserving the Past, Creating the Future
I would venture to say that the legacy of Garrison is that we were all successful. We didn't all go off to college or make a trillion dollars, but we were successful.
Shelton Ponder
One Garrison student went on to meet the Bushes and many other presidential families. People left Garrison with a strong educational foundation; the children educated at Garrison became, simply, good people. They even broke barriers in education itself. One former student, A.J. Byrd, is currently serving on the Liberty school board.

While the world is so divided, Garrison School is a place to unite people.
Theresa Byrd, CCAAL Director of Grants
The Garrison building is now on the National Register of Historic Places and serves as both the headquarters for the Clay County African American Legacy, Inc. and as a cultural and educational center. The building is the only African-American school in Clay County that still stands today.

The legacy of Garrison is that it's always been a community centerpiece...no matter what, Garrison is still Garrison. |
Garrison's legacy will always be one of educating...we were encompassed by something greater than ourselves.
